A message from our director, Olimpia

· By Tamara Muñoz

IMS was founded five years ago with a clear purpose: to put the focus on the child. For us, each student is a seed with unique potential, and our role is to nurture them with the tools, values and skills necessary for them to grow with confidence and commitment, becoming a global citizen aware of their role in society.

We have set ourselves the goal of becoming a benchmark in Montessori education and the first International School in Campo de Gibraltar to merge this pedagogy with both international and national educational programs. In this way, we ensure that our students receive a holistic education that goes beyond academics and becomes education for life.

Personalized teaching and teamwork between teacher and family are the two fundamental pillars of our method, helping each child to become a young person who knows himself, who understands his strengths and who has the ability to think and choose freely how to put those strengths at the service of the common good.

As Maria Montessori said, “Unleash the child’s potential and you will transform it in the world”—And that, precisely, is our mission as a school: to provide an authentic and contemporary Montessori learning experience in which each child is respected in their uniqueness and can thrive at their own pace, discovering their passion and developing their full potential.

We are committed to cultivating minds that are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the emotional and social skills necessary to navigate an ever-changing world, as well as a set of values that will serve as a compass:

  1. Flexibility to adapt to change.
  2. Love for learning and continuous improvement.
  3. Respect for individual differences.
  4. Collaboration and teamwork
  5. Effort and perseverance

We also promote research and project-based learning to help our students develop skills such as searching for and selecting relevant information, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and public speaking—skills that will prepare them to face the challenges the future may bring.

We would like to share some moments from our recent participation in Cambre Open Science 2025, science fair where the Antarctica Project was chosen to present, led by our teacher Palma García Hormigo and carried out by the students of Workshop 2.

It was an unforgettable experience in which some of the invited students stayed with host families, helped set up the stands and shared with all the visitors – children, families and teachers from other schools – the knowledge acquired on this topic. On this trip I was able to see first-hand that the purpose for which IMS was born is today a consolidated reality, something that can be experienced and lived clearly in every moment of this journey full of learning.
