A day at Casa de Niños: Discover a unique approach to learning

· By Tamara Muñoz

Morning welcome: a calm and determined start

In our Children’s House environment, each day presents a new opportunity for children to discover, learn and grow independently in a respectful and stimulating environment.
At 9:00 am we begin the day with a warm and welcoming morning assembly, where we greet each child and review the day’s schedule. Through songs and games, children explore the days of the week, months of the year, numbers, weather, continents and letter sounds, while reinforcing classroom rules and core values such as respect and cooperation.

Freedom to choose: Montessori work cycle

A Day in Casa de Niños: Discover a Unique Approach to Learning

From 9:30 a.m. m. to 10:45 a.m. m., children can freely choose from a wide variety of Montessori materials in different learning areas:

Practical life

This area focuses on everyday skills and encourages independence. Children participate in activities such as pouring water, fastening buttons, cleaning tables, sweeping, or tending plants. These tasks support concentration, coordination and self-discipline while helping children feel capable and responsible.

Sensory

IMS, Children’s House: 3-6 years

Sensory materials help children refine their senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. Activities such as color matching, texture sorting, sound games, and shape exploration develop keen observation and logical thinking. These materials isolate specific qualities, allowing children to categorize their world and construct mathematical reasoning.

Math

Concrete materials introduce abstract mathematical concepts. Children work with number bars, beads, and counters to learn quantities, operations, and sequences. Concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are presented in a tangible and attractive way.

Language

IMS, Casa de Niños: 3-6 years
IMS, Children’s House: 3-6 years

Linguistic materials support reading, writing and verbal expression. Children develop fine motor skills through writing tools and are encouraged to read, tell stories, sing songs and engage in conversations, naturally cultivating a love of language.

Cultural Areas (Geography, Botany, Zoology)

Children explore the world through globes, maps and hands-on materials. They learn about continents, countries, animals and plants, fostering curiosity and appreciation for global diversity and the natural world.

Individualized learning through freedom of choice

This carefully prepared environment not only encourages natural curiosity but also supports an individualized learning journey, allowing each child to progress at their own pace.

Grace and courtesy

Throughout the morning, children engage in social-emotional learning through role-play and guided activities, practicing kindness, empathy, and collaboration.

Cultural Exploration Days

Once a week we dedicate a special day to delve into cultural topics such as geography, botany, zoology and world cultures. Through mini-projects, children investigate, explore and share fascinating discoveries in dynamic and creative ways.

We enhance learning with:

  • Audiovisual materials such as videos and presentations.
  • Real objects for observation and practical experiences.

These sessions encourage critical thinking, curiosity and communication skills.

We also include a creative art activity using recycled materials, allowing children to express their learning through imaginative crafts.

Community Responsibility and Contribution

IMS, Casa de Niños: 3-6 years
IMS, Children’s House: 3-6 years

At 11:45 a.m., children help tidy up the classroom by choosing a task, such as cleaning tables, organizing books, or watering plants. This shared responsibility promotes teamwork, responsibility and care for your environment.

Snack and Pla outdoorsy

After a light snack, children enjoy free play in the outdoor area, encouraging physical activity, social interaction and fun until 12:45 p.m. m.

Afternoon enrichment
