Nursery & Infant Community
The Nursery and Infant Community at International Montessori School Sotogrande takes children from 4 months to 3 years in a prepared, bilingual environment. The Nursery runs to 18 months and the Infant Community from 18 months to 3 years, with mixed-age groups, Spanish and English every day and hours from 9:00 to 12:00, 13:00 or 15:00.

What a day looks like
The day is built around the two needs of this age: movement and language. The environment is prepared so that the baby can move freely and safely, reach the materials without help and repeat an activity as many times as they want.
Guides accompany without interrupting: they observe, name what is happening and step in only when needed. That is how a child learns to control their body in space and to recognise the sounds of Spanish and English naturally, without effort.
The routine includes self-care (washing hands, eating alone, helping to tidy up), sensorial and psychomotor work, music and time outdoors.
What your child works on
The prepared environment
Every piece of furniture is at the child's height, the materials are real (wood, glass, ceramic) and there is only one of each. That is deliberate: waiting for a material teaches patience and respect for other people's work. The space is calm, ordered and full of light, with separate areas for movement, meals and rest.
Frequently asked questions
From what age do you accept babies in the Nursery?
We accept babies from 4 months old, provided the family is ready and the adaptation can be gradual.
How many hours can my child stay?
There are three bands: Semillas from 9:00 to 12:00, Raíces from 9:00 to 13:00 and Alas from 9:00 to 15:00, which can be extended to 16:00 or 17:00. A Breakfast Club is also available from 7:30 for families who need an earlier start.
Are meals included?
The snack is included in every band. Lunch and the nap are included in the Alas timetable. In Semillas and Raíces the child leaves before lunchtime. The menu is prepared on site.
Which language is spoken in the classroom?
Spanish and English, every day and inside the same environment. Children hear both languages from adults who speak them naturally, which is how a language is acquired at this age. French joins later, in Children's House.
Can we start mid-year?
Yes, as long as there are places in the group. Mid-year admissions are looked at one by one so that the child's adaptation and the balance of the environment are protected. Children usually begin with a progressive settling-in period of several days.
