Food for children in summer

Do you feel that your children eat worse in the heat, or are you worried that they may become dehydrated?
Here are some tips on a healthy summer diet.

During the summer, schedules are altered, children sleep later, go out to play and do not want to waste time eating, they consume more sweets, ice cream and soft drinks, reducing their intake of the main meal, so during this time of year you have to be especially careful with their diet.

In the case of children, to the ambient heat we must add the longer hours they spend in the sun, playing outdoors in the park, on the beach or in the pool. These situations are accompanied by more physical exercise, which should be encouraged. The combination of heat and exercise means that we must be especially concerned about maintaining adequate hydration, both through fluid intake and maintaining an adequate diet.

Food changes in summer and we crave fresh foods that help us stay hydrated. We no longer crave the hot and dense dishes that we can eat in winter. We must look for foods that contain many vitamins, minerals and fiber. We are going to talk about 4 refreshing foods that are ideal for this summer season.

  1. seasonal fruits

Watermelon, melon and cherries are seasonal fruits that become essential in summer. They can be eaten in pieces, with yogurt, crushed in smoothies or with fresh milk in the form of smoothies and are ideal as a dessert, snack or breakfast. For example, an original watermelon gazpacho that you will surely love.

  1. Vegetable creams

Summer is the prime season for cold creams such as pumpkin, vegetable or classic gazpacho. Another good idea is the Cordoban salmorejo, which you will surely love, or a warm ratatouille with fried eggs and rice.

  1. Ice cream and sorbets

It is better if they are homemade and you can prepare them with natural ingredients. A nutritious food that you can make with a blender, a mold and a freezer. You can also combine them with milk and make original and nutritious smoothies.

Another option is cold salads in which you can use all your imagination, for example, a salad of shrimp and melon or spinach, strawberries and fresh cheese.
