Summer Camp in Puerto Banús: Montessori Sotogrande

· By Tamara Muñoz

Every summer, hundreds of families on the Costa del Sol look for a summer camp in Puerto Banús that offers more than just games. But most don’t know that just 30 minutes from Marbella, in Sotogrande, the MIMS Kids Summer Camp at IMS Montessori Sotogrande combines fun, learning, and respect for each child’s pace.

It’s not just another camp. It’s a space where play becomes learning, English and Spanish flow naturally, and each activity respects each child’s developmental pace. Endorsed by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and NEASC accreditation, IMS Sotogrande is the only school in the area offering a summer program with these credentials.

Why a Montessori camp over a typical summer camp in Puerto Banús?

Most summer camps in Puerto Banús offer recreational activities, but few integrate a scientific pedagogy that respects each child’s sensitive periods. At IMS Sotogrande, every activity has a purpose: to develop autonomy, concentration, and natural curiosity. While a traditional camp may rely on direct instruction, the Montessori approach allows the child to choose their own path, guided by trained adults.

Research shows that Montessori environments improve executive function and intrinsic motivation. A summer without proper stimulation can lead to learning loss, but here children continue to build their minds without perceiving it as “work.” In fact, the famous “summer slide” is minimized when the environment is prepared to spark curiosity.

Moreover, in our camp there are no rewards or punishments: we trust the child’s ability to self-regulate. Guides observe and present new challenges when they detect interest. Thus, a child who finishes camp not only returns home happy but goes back to school with greater self-confidence.

MIMS Kids Summer Camp 2026: an AMI-stamped alternative

The MIMS Kids Summer Camp 2026 runs from June 29 to July 31 at the IMS Sotogrande facilities, located at Carr. de Cádiz, Edif. Sotocentro, 1st floor. The base schedule is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with an extension until 5:00 p.m. for families who need it. Spots are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

The camp is organized by age into prepared environments:

  • Infant Community (3-6 years): sensory activities, practical life, cooking, music and movement, outdoor play. Little ones enjoy a vegetable garden, care for animals, and learn routines of order and personal care.
  • Workshop Environment (6-12 years): science projects, art, theater, weekly outings, and collaborative work. Trips to Torreguadiaro beach, visits to the library, or robotics workshops are common.

All meals are included and balanced menus are prepared. Additionally, each week has a special theme: nature, world cultures, inventions, etc. The last Friday of each month we hold a farewell party to which families are invited.

The team consists of certified guides such as Tamara Muñoz (Head of School), along with specialists in music (Tatiana Gavira) and physical education (Alejandro Ledesma). They all share the same passion: accompanying each child on their own path.

Day-to-day in a Montessori camp: autonomy and discovery

Upon arrival, children plan their day with the guide. They can choose from different corners: art, construction, reading, or garden. The morning passes between work cycles and play, with a break for shared lunch. In the afternoon, group activities such as sports or creative workshops are organized. Fridays culminate in a thematic party that children look forward to.

“Here they never get bored,” says a mother from last year. And it’s true: the combination of structure and freedom makes every day different. Children learn to manage their time, resolve conflicts, and care for materials. Small responsibilities, like setting the table or watering plants, become great lessons in community.

Skills your child will develop without realizing it

In Montessori we talk about “invisible learning”: that which arises from play and exploration. During camp, children strengthen:

  • Autonomy: by choosing their activities and caring for their environment.
  • Concentration: by immersing themselves in projects they are truly interested in.
  • Empathy and conflict resolution: by living together in a heterogeneous group without competition.
  • Fine and gross motor skills: through arts, sewing, sports, or cooking.
  • Multilingualism: by naturally interacting with guides and peers in English and Spanish.

These skills not only prepare for the next school year but build a solid foundation for life.

Bilingualism and multiculturalism: a plus for expat families

IMS is an international school that attracts families from over 15 nationalities. During camp, immersion in English and Spanish is constant, with native-speaking staff in both languages. For families who are moving to Sotogrande with kids or living in Gibraltar, Alcaidesa, or La Línea, it is an opportunity for integration and natural language learning.

In fact, we are the only school in the area with a bilingual Montessori program partially funded by the EU. This makes the camp a trusted bilingual school San Roque for the summer.

Facilities and surroundings: Sotogrande, half an hour from Puerto Banús

Another advantage: proximity. Although many families look for a summer camp in Puerto Banús, Sotogrande’s location offers a green and safe environment away from tourist bustle. The drive from Puerto Banús takes just 30 minutes via the A-7. Our facilities, in the heart of Sotomarket, feature spacious classrooms, outdoor areas, and all necessary Montessori materials.

Additionally, on Fridays families can participate in a small showcase of what has been learned. An experience that unites the community.

Frequently asked questions about the Montessori summer camp in Sotogrande

How is a Montessori camp different from a conventional summer camp in Puerto Banús?

A traditional summer camp in Puerto Banús usually focuses on guided entertainment. In contrast, the Montessori method respects the child’s initiative, fosters concentration, and develops life skills. It’s not about “letting them do whatever” but guiding with intention. The results are noticeable: more confident, collaborative, and curious children.

Does my child need to have attended a Montessori school before?

No. The camp is open to all children, whether from a Montessori school or a traditional one. Our guides adapt activities so every child feels welcome from day one.

Can I enroll my child for just one or two weeks?

The minimum stay is two weeks, but we recommend the full month for a real immersion. Contact us to check availability for single weeks.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Yes. We apply a 10% discount from the second sibling enrolled. Additionally, families who book before June 1 get an extra 5% off.

How can I reserve a spot for the MIMS Kids Summer Camp 2026?

Send an email to [email protected] or call +34 691 225 041. You can also book a visit to the school to see the facilities. Spots are assigned strictly in order of enrollment.

This summer, let fun go hand in hand with growth
