Daily Routine of an IMSS Student
The routine of our students begins from the moment they enter through the main door. During the morning classroom time, the children can choose what they would like for breakfast from the options provided by the center. This involves preparing their table, their plate, their cutlery, and then cleaning up afterwards. They proceed to their corresponding classroom, where they take off their outdoor shoes and put on their slippers, leaving their street shoes neatly at the entrance of the classroom.
Once the workday begins from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM within the Montessori environment, our students can choose which area and with which materials they prefer to work, provided they are already familiar with the materials and the guide has introduced them. They can choose from sensory areas, practical life, mathematics, zoology, biology, geography, or language. At the same time, our Maker space will be open so that, in turns and in small groups, our students can engage in project-based work.
Before heading outside to the playground for free playtime, the students in charge for the day prepare a fruit snack for the entire group. This involves preparing the fruit, cutting, plating, and serving, including cleanup afterwards. During free play, they have access to various materials to practice motor skills or gross motor activities. After this recess, they will have different activities each day of the week such as French, environmental education, emotional education, or chess.
Then comes lunchtime, and the space is prepared for it, with tablecloths, cutlery, and the corresponding plates. Not to forget that the space must be left clean and tidy before we go home.
And on Fridays… our learning walks! We travel by bus, have direct contact with nature, and access areas for psychomotor activities.
